The Blackwood Valley is one of Western Australia’s newest wine regions, being gazetted as a wine region in 1998. The region has increasingly taken advantage of its favourable soils and Mediterranean climate, with dry summers and wet winters, to produce wines of class and distinction.
There are now more than 50 vineyards and around 15 cellar doors and wine producers in the area. Grape varieties represented in the region include Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and many of the wines have won major awards.
The fertile farmlands and orchards of the Blackwood Valley are ideal not only for grape production but also for producing award winning fruit wines and ciders.
